Bird sightings

Shetland's bird records are collated by the independent website Nature in Shetland, for inclusion in Shetland Bird Club's annual Shetland Bird Report. Nature in Shetland also provides a comprehensive daily account of ALL wildlife sightings on its website, as well as an archive of sightings going back to 2003.

To submit your Shetland bird sightings, please use our online submissions form or email them to administrator@nature-shetland.co.uk.

Rare birds sightings

Descriptions are required for all rare birds sightings and should be sent to the County Recorder (except those from Fair Isle, which should be sent via the FIBO warden). Records are considered by either British Birds Rarities Committee, the Scottish Birds Records Committee or the Shetland Bird Club Records Committee (SBCRC).

Records will only be published in Shetland Bird Reports if a) they are already accepted by a records committee b) they have been submitted and are under consideration by a records committee c) the finder(s) have not made a submission but the bird was seen by a large number of observers and/or photographs or video exists which make it likely that a committee will eventually accept the record.
